FIRST ANNUAL MEETING
Madison Community Canine Area Users
Oct 2nd, 2010, 10:00 a.m.
CALL TO ORDER: The first Annual meeting of the Madison Canine Community Area (CCA) users was held at the Madison Community Center on October 2nd, 2010. The meeting convened at 10:17 a.m., with Madison CCA Sponsor Group Chairman Cinda Berry presiding, and Secretary Yvonne Deemer recording. Cinda welcomed the participants and introduced the officers of the Madison CCA Sponsor Group.
SPEAKERS: Lyndell Core is the Area Manager with Arlington's Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department responsible for the County’s eight dog parks as well as many of the other parks in Arlington. Lyndell indicated that scheduled speaker Alice Burton, Animal Control and Humane Officer with the Animal Welfare League of Arlington would not be present due to illness. In her absence, he offered to field any questions participants might have.
He noted that he appreciated and encouraged the activism of the Madison CCA users and proceeded to address the following Madison CCA park maintenance and improvement issues:
Surface Erosion: Sand bags have been strategically placed to prevent 3-4” water fall from causing further erosion to the grounds. Plans are in place to fill in the ditch with larger stone, then topping that layer with additional crushed stone.
Water: The water fountain in place is not used as a water fountain and not effective as a faucet. The current one will be replaced with a similar hydrant as the one outside of the park which is also winter-proof. A shut-off valve will be put in place so that the school fountains will be cut off, while leaving the dog park fountains on year round. This project should be completed by early November 2010.
Lighting: The bollards have lost their usefulness and will be discarded. As a trial, a solar powered light with a timer will be placed along the fence. Once it is determined how much illumination this light distributes, it will be reported to Lyndell who will install enough units to provide ample lighting for the park. A security basket is being devised to contain the lighting fixture. When that becomes available, it will be installed.
CCA SG COMMITTEES: Cinda described the four SG committees and highlights of the past year, which include:
Rules and Bylaws developed the Madison CCA rules, which incorporate the county rules and are posted on the park gate and the bulletin board. Finance & Developmentestablished required financial and administrative frameworks. Membershipdeveloped an email contact list, a website, and enlisted several sponsors. Grounds worked with Lyndell on maintenance and improvement issues and organized volunteer teams for certain park maintenance tasks.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Bob Deason reported that the Madison CCA SG treasury contains $587.00.
T-SHIRT LOGO CONTEST: Bob Deason announced that the SG will be running a contest for a design to be printed on a Madison CCA T-shirt. The design should be suitable for a one-color silkscreen print, and entries should be sent to Madison.dogs@verizon.net . Entries will be posted at MadisonDogs.org, and viewers will be able to click and submit to vote for their favorite entries. The T-shirts will be sold for $15 each.
ELECTIONS: Bob Lipsey presented the slate of candidates for sponsors. It was moved and seconded that the proposed slate be approved by a voice vote. The following slate of sponsors was so approved: Joallyn Archambault, Cinda Berry, Dan Creedon, Bob Deason, John Deemer, Yvonne Deemer, Brendan Feeley, Doug Hill, Gee Holm, Jody Katz, Jean Lewis, Bob Lipsey, Steve Rudin, and Greg Williams.
